A Couple Of Idlis

A kind-hearted woman had the habit of placing two idlis on a banana leaf and leaving it on the compound wall of her home every day, in the hope that it would satisfy someone’s hunger. An old hunchback, who frequented that area, would stop to pick up the food while muttering something under his breath. This became a routine occurrence. As the woman watched the hunchback everyday and heard him mutter unintelligibly, she became curious to learn what he mumbles. The following day, she decided to hide next to the wall to listen in. As usual the old man ambled over to the wall and picked up the idlis. Concentrating hard to get his words, she heared him mumble in a gruff voice, “The sins you committed will stay with you Your righteous deeds will return to you.” The old man continued this refrain everyday after picking up the food.
